Week 3

Minchinhampton - Holy Trinity Church 17/11/10

Not sure about this...

We had an successful trip to a Church on Wednesday where we got to see all the things we had been learning about and find out about what goes on in a Church. The weather didn't allow us to be outside for long but we got to explore the church in groups which was very interesting. Rev Jane Walden talked to us and answered numerous questions and we even got to taste some of the 'special bread'.

In Dance we had grest fun pretending to be Roman soldiers and have made up the first part to a Roman dance. We will be continuing with this next week.
In French we had a go at learning colours this week as well as practising all we did last week (introducing ourselves and saying our age).

Also this week we had our first proper class council meeting. Mrs Marks now has a list of things we would like to change. This includes things like getting an electric pencil sharpener to lengthening the school day to allow chance for golden time! Needless to say this idea was only supported by a few! It was nice to have chance to talk about things we would like to change even if some of them may be impossible!
Friday saw us coming to school with wacky hair and non-uniform to support children in need. Also many of us were involved in the bring and buy sale after school which was good fun for a good cause and all organised by the children!
Pupil of the week: Well done to Joshua Reid

Class 2

Hannah Shaw at work...

This week we have had our annual 'book week'. The book fair has been and will hopefully have earned enough commission for each class to have some new books! We also had a visit from local author and illustrator Hannah Shaw who worked with each class throughout the day. In class 2 she helped us create a special character for our stories. That was the other focus of the week, writing a story to go in our 'writing journeys' and also to be published in a school book! Our writing journeys are the special books that we write in twice a year and they show our progression (writing jouurney) through school. The children get to take them home in year 6.

On Wednesday we went for an autumn walk to give us ideas for our stories. We were so lucky with the weather and the children were brilliant - we had very few complaints about the hills as we did venture down into the valley!!! The walk must have helped as the children spent all afternoon on Wednesday writing and still wanted more time!

Another aspect of the week was a competition to design a front cover for our book. Hannah Shaw is going to judge our attempts next week so watch this space!
Also this week we welcomed Mrs Sibley who will be working mainly in Class 2:)
