Spring Term, Week 4

This week we have been very busy writing stories using a character and ideas from author Anthony Browne. We have spent a few weeks looking at his stories and illustrations so we had lots of inspiration. Next week we will be reading our finished stories to class one and we are going to make nice picture books with the stories in. Some of our stories will go on the website next week too.
In science we finished our investigation to see what effect coke had on teeth. We put a tooth in coke and one in water and the while the tooth in water was unchanged, the tooth in coke turned black/brown! I don't think we'll be drinking coke for a while... Miss Gobey (our student) has definitely been put off. We finished our work on teeth this week although we will cover brushing our teeth in PSHCE later this term.
Our French teacher didn't make it in this week but we still had a go at writing letters to our French penpals. This was quite tricky and we will be finishing letters and writing them up in best to send next week.
Our Roman dance is nearly complete. We have worked really hard on it and are hoping to finish it next week. Hopefully we will be able to record it to show what we have been up to!
We are working hard on handwriting at the moment and have been looking at our own writing to see how we can improve. Well done to Joshua R and Harriet for getting their provisional pen licences recently and Holly and Georgia were awarded permanent licences last week.
Also well done to Joshua W for being this weeks star worker and Rosie-Jane for last week!
Finally well done to Holly who has the spelling trophy for January!

Last week - Spring Term Wk 2!

Except for our special lunch at the Lamb this has been quite a normal week! In literacy we started learning about the author Anthony Browne. We have read lots of his books and have been comparing them. He is also a brilliant illustrator and his drawings are very detailed and some are quite strange or to quote Olivia, "Peculiar". He likes using gorillas in his stories and most of them have a serious message.
In science we have been learning more about teeth and their purpose. We have also been considering what we need to do to look after them. We designed a poster with an important message about looking after teeth and some of our posters are going to be sent to our local dentist and displayed around school.
In French this week we started learning about the names of animals. It was quite tricky to remember them. Pig (cochon) seemed to be the most popular!
In maths we have had fun finding out about 3-d shape. We have had opportunities to make our own shapes and are getting very good at describing their properties!
We had another class council meeting this week and the year two are very keen to raise some money by doing 'something'. We would like an electric pencil sharpener and a class stereo so we are going to make this a project for the term!
Louis D had a good idea for reading, we are going to start a 'good read' box where children can put books they think others would enjoy. This may be their own books if they are allowed to lend them or school books they have read and enjoyed.
