Sandwich making

We have had a really busy few days learning about different types of sandwiches and bread. We then designed and made our own sandwiches. We got to taste rye bread, soda bread, granary, baguette, white and brown bread. Most of us were willing to try it all but only a couple of us liked the rye bread. Joshua R liked it so much he designed a rye bread double decker sandwich. Unfortunately it didn't taste so good when it came to lunchtime! Jim was the only one who had a pitta bread and Harry was adventurous enough to try a bagel!
Lots of us designed double deckers and when it came to it white bread was the favourite despite so many people liking granary bread during the tasting.
We had to try and have a healthy aspect to our sandwiches and the children were encouraged to try new things and add a variety of ingredients. There were some interesting designs (Gabriel, Alfie, Louis W) but the children soon realised that sweet and sour don't really go well together in a sandwich...
The photos below show us eating our finished product and there are a few shots of us making too.

We all worked really hard and had a very successful and fun 3 days of D.T!

Happy Christmas everyone. Hope you have a good rest!!!

Christmas Activities Week

On Monday we went up to Thomas Keble to learn how to play volleyball. We got split into four groups and the year ten sports leaders taught us how to play. It was lots of fun and made up for the fact we missed our dance this week as the hall was needed for nativity rehearsals.
On Monday and Tuesday afternoon the Y3/4 had a festive time. They put the Christmas tree up and planned and made a Christmas display. We had been thinking about things we associate with Christmas and they worked in twos or threes to produce something with very little help!
Christmas activities took up four mornings this week. We have made some brilliant things and everyone enjoyed the chance to be creative and have a break from the norm. Next week we are going to do our D.T - making sandwiches, not terribly festive but good fun!

Last week in class 2

On Monday we started learning about teeth in science by having a look in our mouths and thinking about the names of different teeth. The teeth names are also our table names so hopefully we will remember them!
Our Roman dance is progressing well but we need a bit more time to complete it and are hoping to spend an afternoon working on it before the end of term, our dance lessons are not long enough and we are very motivated by being Roman soldiers (and Celts this week)!!!
Wednesday saw the start of our advent calendar, well we have two calendars actually. One present one and a religious picture one too. We are lucky to have 24 children in the class! Each day someones name gets picked out of a special box to decide who opens it.
Also on Wednesday the Y3/4 got given their projects. This is a project that traditionally Y3 have always done but it wasn't done last year so both Y3/4 are doing it now. The children have until February to research a topic of their own choosing and produce a book on it which they will then do a talk about to the class. The majority of children seemed genuinely excited at the prospect. The idea is that it will be their own work but they will need direction, support and encouragement!
On Wednesday afternoon we planned our Christmas display which we hope to create on Monday afternoon. The children are working in pairs or threes to produce something connected to Christmas.
