Sandwich making

We have had a really busy few days learning about different types of sandwiches and bread. We then designed and made our own sandwiches. We got to taste rye bread, soda bread, granary, baguette, white and brown bread. Most of us were willing to try it all but only a couple of us liked the rye bread. Joshua R liked it so much he designed a rye bread double decker sandwich. Unfortunately it didn't taste so good when it came to lunchtime! Jim was the only one who had a pitta bread and Harry was adventurous enough to try a bagel!
Lots of us designed double deckers and when it came to it white bread was the favourite despite so many people liking granary bread during the tasting.
We had to try and have a healthy aspect to our sandwiches and the children were encouraged to try new things and add a variety of ingredients. There were some interesting designs (Gabriel, Alfie, Louis W) but the children soon realised that sweet and sour don't really go well together in a sandwich...
The photos below show us eating our finished product and there are a few shots of us making too.

We all worked really hard and had a very successful and fun 3 days of D.T!

Happy Christmas everyone. Hope you have a good rest!!!

Christmas Activities Week

On Monday we went up to Thomas Keble to learn how to play volleyball. We got split into four groups and the year ten sports leaders taught us how to play. It was lots of fun and made up for the fact we missed our dance this week as the hall was needed for nativity rehearsals.
On Monday and Tuesday afternoon the Y3/4 had a festive time. They put the Christmas tree up and planned and made a Christmas display. We had been thinking about things we associate with Christmas and they worked in twos or threes to produce something with very little help!
Christmas activities took up four mornings this week. We have made some brilliant things and everyone enjoyed the chance to be creative and have a break from the norm. Next week we are going to do our D.T - making sandwiches, not terribly festive but good fun!

Last week in class 2

On Monday we started learning about teeth in science by having a look in our mouths and thinking about the names of different teeth. The teeth names are also our table names so hopefully we will remember them!
Our Roman dance is progressing well but we need a bit more time to complete it and are hoping to spend an afternoon working on it before the end of term, our dance lessons are not long enough and we are very motivated by being Roman soldiers (and Celts this week)!!!
Wednesday saw the start of our advent calendar, well we have two calendars actually. One present one and a religious picture one too. We are lucky to have 24 children in the class! Each day someones name gets picked out of a special box to decide who opens it.
Also on Wednesday the Y3/4 got given their projects. This is a project that traditionally Y3 have always done but it wasn't done last year so both Y3/4 are doing it now. The children have until February to research a topic of their own choosing and produce a book on it which they will then do a talk about to the class. The majority of children seemed genuinely excited at the prospect. The idea is that it will be their own work but they will need direction, support and encouragement!
On Wednesday afternoon we planned our Christmas display which we hope to create on Monday afternoon. The children are working in pairs or threes to produce something connected to Christmas.

Week 3

Minchinhampton - Holy Trinity Church 17/11/10

Not sure about this...

We had an successful trip to a Church on Wednesday where we got to see all the things we had been learning about and find out about what goes on in a Church. The weather didn't allow us to be outside for long but we got to explore the church in groups which was very interesting. Rev Jane Walden talked to us and answered numerous questions and we even got to taste some of the 'special bread'.

In Dance we had grest fun pretending to be Roman soldiers and have made up the first part to a Roman dance. We will be continuing with this next week.
In French we had a go at learning colours this week as well as practising all we did last week (introducing ourselves and saying our age).

Also this week we had our first proper class council meeting. Mrs Marks now has a list of things we would like to change. This includes things like getting an electric pencil sharpener to lengthening the school day to allow chance for golden time! Needless to say this idea was only supported by a few! It was nice to have chance to talk about things we would like to change even if some of them may be impossible!
Friday saw us coming to school with wacky hair and non-uniform to support children in need. Also many of us were involved in the bring and buy sale after school which was good fun for a good cause and all organised by the children!
Pupil of the week: Well done to Joshua Reid

Book Week

Spot the new class member!!!

Alfie's alien. Imagine bumping into that in the woods!

Class 2

Hannah Shaw at work...

This week we have had our annual 'book week'. The book fair has been and will hopefully have earned enough commission for each class to have some new books! We also had a visit from local author and illustrator Hannah Shaw who worked with each class throughout the day. In class 2 she helped us create a special character for our stories. That was the other focus of the week, writing a story to go in our 'writing journeys' and also to be published in a school book! Our writing journeys are the special books that we write in twice a year and they show our progression (writing jouurney) through school. The children get to take them home in year 6.

On Wednesday we went for an autumn walk to give us ideas for our stories. We were so lucky with the weather and the children were brilliant - we had very few complaints about the hills as we did venture down into the valley!!! The walk must have helped as the children spent all afternoon on Wednesday writing and still wanted more time!

Another aspect of the week was a competition to design a front cover for our book. Hannah Shaw is going to judge our attempts next week so watch this space!
Also this week we welcomed Mrs Sibley who will be working mainly in Class 2:)

Week 7!

What a busy week and it's only Wednesday! The children have worked really hard for their class assembly which took place this afternoon. Everyone remembered their lines and did really well. It is a big deal to stand up in front of an audience so the children should be really proud of themselves, especially those that were brave enough to stand up all by themselves (Joshua Reid, Louis Woodrow and Olivia). Louis D was also going to but he was away.
Unfortunately there are things we would have liked to show which weren't finished yet. The children will all be making Punch and Judy shows this week which will undoubtedly be very entertaining!!! We haven't yet finished our seaside dance because we have been practising our tag rugby ready for this weeks festival. However, we were glad to have an audience for our poems!
A special mention to Gabriel, Alfie, Harriet, Max, Georgia, Joshua W, Louis W, Emily, Olivia and Immy who took part in the tag rugby festival at Painswick on Tuesday. They had an exhausting day which included 5 games of rugby and some coaching. They spent the entire day outside but luckily it wasn't too cold! Out of five games they managed to win two and as the day went on they grew more confident. Each child was presented with a medal at the end of the day and they really deserved it! Thanks to Mr Robinson-McCann for accompanying the children and for Mrs Evans (Joshua W's nan) who also spent the day with us and even provided us with a rug to sit on!
The children back in school were left with fun tasks to complete and have entered a walk to school month competition where they had to design a flag to promote walking to school. They also made some super seaside pictures which were displayed in Class 3 for our assembly today. Our seaside topic will end this week when we say goodbye to Ms Spyropoulos. We thank her for all her hard work and will be sad to see her go. She will undoubtedly be called back for supply which the children were happy to hear! Next term Mrs Monk will start the Roman topic with the class!
Have a happy half term everyone :)

Last week in Class 2

8/10/10 We have had another busy week. A priority has been learning our Harvest prayers ready for our Harvest celebration on Monday 11th. The children have done well at learning their lines but need to practise saying the prayers a bit louder and in time with their group/partner. It is a big deal for them to stand in front of an audience so hopefully we will be 'alright on the afternoon!'
As part of our science work we had a couple of visitors into the classroom this week. Cassia Reid (age 2) and India Freebrey (4 months). They were both very well behaved and gave us an opportunity to ask questions about their needs and capabilities. We also had great fun looking at our baby photos. They have been added to our science display for a guessing game.
Mrs Ayling joined us for P.E on Tuesday to do some tag rugby. The Y3/4 have the festival in a couple of weeks so we needed a bit of practise! It was a fun session which gave all the children a chance to try the game. We are planning to do more next week.
Other news: We have a student, Miss Gobey (from Cirencester College) working with us on a Monday and Tuesday until Christmas.
Kim Williams is student of the week this week. Well done Kim :)

PUnch and Judy

We have been working on Punch and Judy puppet designs as part of our seaside topic. We decided that we will make some punch and judy puppets, construct a theatre, write some plays, video them, and publish them on our blog. So please watch this space. In the meantime here are some of our designs.
